Look...
As a content marketer or personal brand, you end up publishing hundreds upon hundreds of great pieces of content to grow your audience.
We'll call this "Phase 1" in bootstrapping an online business with organic traffic...
This is usually done through blogging to drive traffic from Google, or going all in on Video to grow your audience on YouTube.
It's the audience growth phase.
When you focus on creating useful content that answers the many 'how to' questions you find through keyword research, you can build your site or channel up as an authority on that topic through brute force effort.
If you're creating truly helpful content that is well written and useful af... You can trigger the search engine algorithm to start driving traffic to you!
Because that's Google's goal.
To deliver the most useful webpage for whatever keyword is searched.
YouTube works the same way with video.
My first experience in generating heaps of organic traffic was through my wife's blog which has received over 40,000,000 visits since we started it.
We've got over 1000 posts on that site and it still gets millions of visits per year.
Then, starting in 2016 I decided to teach EVERYTHING I'd learned building my wife's brand on my channel here...
Each video was as useful and helpful as I could make it on the specific topic...
In the first 4 months, I posted 1 video per day... Then 3 per week for about 4 years.
Over 5 years I published nearly 700 videos, averaging about 1 new video every 2.5 days.
This grew my channel to over 185,000 subscribers and more than 10,000,000 views.
Let's recap phase 1 real quick so we can get to the remixing...
This first phase is all about growing your audience and your organic traffic from publishing massive amounts of useful content.
Onto phase 2...
Phase 2 - The Content Marketer's Remix
Ok, so at this point, the traffic is flowing from your past efforts in publishing your library of truly useful and helpful content...
Now, YouTube & Google's goal for you is to keep you addicted to publishing new organic content to feed their business with new content.
But...
It is way more profitable to work on higher value tasks like email list building and converting leads into customers.
Because you no longer have a traffic problem from the content marketing efforts in phase 1.
This is when you realize that you actually have a conversion problem...
And YouTube or Google don't care if you ever convert anyone into a customer. They only care if they can run ads around your content...
If they don't censor you for saying the wrong thing.
Which is why it's so damn important for you to build out your email list!
Because you own that list!
You can always export it and move to another provider.
Therefore...
Phase 2 is all about building the conversion mechanisms that will grow your email list.
We are talking about basic sales funnel stuff here...
Opt in pages, one time offers, upsells, etc.
Simple stuff.
From a strategic or 'big picture' perspective, the goal here is to build a system that sorts your traffic to find those who are interested in subscribing to your email list so you can market to them later...
And those who are ready to buy from you, right now.
This is the power of sales funnels.
They not only grow your list by converting leads...
They also generate cashflow faster.
This gives you an opportunity to re-invest the revenue from those customers into paid ads to reach more people.
Then, your long-term profits come from the promotions, campaigns and offers you send to your email list in the future...
Hence the phrase: "the money is in the list"
I can't stress the importance of focusing in aggressively on your email list building efforts.
Your email list is your distribution network that unlocks multiple streams of income as I explain in this video here:
So, this brings up the question.
How do you create all of the content needed for one of these simple sales funnels?
Well...
You remix all of the content you've already published into more valuable content pieces...
Like lead magnets, 7-day challenges, online courses, templates, autoresponders and more.
Introducing The Content Marketing Remix Method
Once your blog or YouTube channel has 200 to 300 posts or videos, your 'library of content' has a big challenge with useability.
Because truth is...
No one has time to go read all of your 231 useful blog posts.
Each visitor is seeking to fix something or achieve an outcome in their life... This is why they are on Google searching...
So you can create new pathways through your content that help specific audience segments get EXACTLY what they want in the most efficient time possible.
Because life is busy.
Efficiency is key.
Here's how to do it...
First, figure out the most common outcomes that your audience is looking to figure out...
You've heard their feedback from the comments section on your blog or videos... You can see what topics get the most search and traffic...
Build a free course that quickly takes them from zero to hero on that topic.
In my business here at milesbeckler.com I found through my ~700 videos that my audience lives in 2 camps.
The affiliate marketers...
and
The sales funnel folks...
Some are in both camps... But from the lens of "what outcomes does my audience want?"
I can say confidently that 80% of my audience is seeking to build at least 1 of these two assets:
1) A successful affiliate website that earns consistent cashflow from organic traffic.
2) A sales funnel that profitably converts traffic from ads into leads and customers.
So...
I chose the one that felt the easiest to pull off and got it 100% completed.
Then I executed this same strategy on the 2nd one.
You see...
I have already taught the tactical steps...
The videos and the blog posts are published.
I didn't have to go create a dozen videos for a new training...
I simply outlined the fastest path to get them from where they are to where they want to be (this is my trick for creating online courses I reveal here)
Then I went and found the best video(s) that got the user to take each step...
Put it all into an outline to make sure the order was right for all the steps.
And then I opened my email marketing software and created a new follow up series (aka autoresponder) that walks the reader through the process of building whichever one they opted in for based on that outline.
One step at a time.
The email autoresponder has little explainer emails with links to the content to teach/show that 1 little step.
The next step comes in the next email in a few days...
Every email trying to get them to take that 1 next step so they actually solve the problem or build what you teach them to build...
And, of course... I let the reader know about my other offers... And the affiliate offers that I truly recommend.
Once the autoresponder is all written out taking them all the way through the process of building what they want to create...
I build one of my super-simple opt in pages that converts like crazy (get my opt-in page template here)
And that's it.
The Power Of The Remix
Now, so far... Nothing earth-shattering here, right?
This is simple stuff.
Make an outline to map out all the steps needed to teach your audience how to accomplish something they value.
For me this was 'Building a successful affiliate site'
...and 'Build a high converting sales funnel'
For years these are the two things I've consistently helped my YouTube build and optimize.
So it was time to build 'my free course' that teaches 'my process'
The outline is the foundation.
Then figure out what assets you have to 'fill in the steps'
You may need to create a few new videos to fill in a step or two...
Or...
I've even taken videos out of my premium courses, like my FB course, and stuffed that 1 video inside of the free sales funnel course.
Because it taught the 1 step...
And I'm naturally lazy, so it was the fastest way to get it done.
Then, write out each step in the journey to help accomplish their goal in the email autoresponder.
The emails will link readers to all your assets and this is your chance to promote your other products or affiliate products where relevant!
Once the autoresponder is written, you create the opt in page...
And then, market the heck out of it.
You now have a drastically more valuable piece of content that links several of your great trainings together in a logical path that your subscribers will love.
You can be proud to promote this opt in as a guest on other blogs, podcasts, YouTube collabs, etc...
And you'll be ready to step up and start running some paid ads to that opt in page which is where the real acceleration can happen within your business.
